In a first, Infosys hires outsider to head HR

Infosys has appointed Krishnamurthy Shankar as the new HR head. Shankar, who has over 30 years of experience, currenty heads the HRD role for Philips (south Asia). He has also worked with Bharti Airtel and Unilever.

In an internal mail to the employees, Infosys COO Pravin Rao said, “Krishnamurthy Shankar (Krish, as he is called) is a passionate leader who has headed the human resources function at some of the most distinguished organisations we know today.”

This is for the first time Infosys has brought in an outsider to head this role, a post which has been lying vacant since April. The previous HR heads of Infosys have always been executives of the company.

“As the EVP & Group Head – HRD at Infosys, Krish will be responsible for envisioning the roadmap for HR, driving strategy and aggressive implementation of operational priorities in alignment with the overall organisational mandate. All the HR heads of Infosys group companies will report to Krish in this role,” Rao said in the statement.

Shankar holds a PG diploma in human resources from XLRI and has an executive qualification in strategy and organisation from Stanford Graduate school of business. Infosys in the last week of July had appointed Richard Lobo, a senior vice president as the new HR head for the India geography. He will be incharge of all HR functions of Infosys in India sans the role of talent acquisition. Infosys which undertook a organisational restructuring effective April this year saw its previous HR head, Srikantan Moorthy moving into into a delivery role.
