Police foiled the attempts of PDSU activists to lay siege to the Collectorate urging the government to release fee reimbursement for two academic years and also sanction scholarships to students, here on Thursday.

The agitating activists were taken into custody when they tried to barge into the Pragathi Bhavan premises. There was a high drama with the police and the protestors pushing each other for a brief period. The arrested were shifted to a police station in waiting vans. Speaking on the occasion, PDSU district secretary Anwesh said that the student community is in dire straits with government postponing release of reimbursement amount and sanction of scholarships. The situation is such that students are forced to discontinue education, unable to clear tuition fee and meet other expenses, he said.

Adilabad Special Correspondent writes: A group of students belonging to the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) on Thursday staged a protest in front of the Collectorate urging the government to immediately address problems being faced by the student community. The protesters demanded release of money on account of fee reimbursement and provision of facilities in hostels. Meanwhile in Khammam, about 25 archakas and employees of the Endowment Department, owing allegiance to the Telangana Archaka Udyoga Sangham, Adilabad district Joint Action Committee, also staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate urging the government to concede their long pending demand. They wanted their salaries to be released through Treasury by incorporating all temples in Telangana as a single unit.

Khammam Staff Reporter writes: Archakas indefinite strike in pursuit of their charter of demands entered the third day on Thursday. The Arjitha Sevas in many temples (B and C categories) continued to remain hit across the district.

The striking Archakas performed “Vanta Vaarpu” at Jamalapuram in Yerrupalem mandal. In a statement, the sangham district president Veerabhadra Sarma said a Sudarshana Homam will be conducted in Khammam on Friday to seek “divine blessings” for their ongoing strike. Our sangham has decided to refrain from the “Mana Gudi” programme in the entire district, he said.
