People at the Yamuna Bank metro station had company on Wednesday after a cobra decided to make its way into the electrical switch room.
Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the Metro staff was in for a surprise after they found the five-and-a –half foot-long snake coiled in the switch room. They called the animal helpline run by Wildlife SOS, which caught the snake and would soon release it in the wild.
Junior engineer at the station, Anshuman, who called Wildlife SOS, said the sight of the snake was least expected. According to Wildlife SOS, the snake was one of the largest they have ever rescued.
Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said rescue operations are tricky when it comes to venomous snakes as extra caution is to be exercised so as not to alarm the snake.
“We have to maintain public safety and ensure safety of the animal. Sometimes these rescue operations can be dangerous and risky, but someone has to do it,” said Mr. Satyanarayan.
Wildlife SOS has performed quite a few similar rescues recently.
A six-foot-long snake was found at Delhi University on August 4, another three-foot-long snake was rescued from a Karkarduma hotel in July, and a large rat snake was found in a public toilet at Talkatora Stadium in June.
