Giants’ first-choice O-line all playing together? Nope, not yet

The Giants want to gain continuity on their offensive line, but it looks as if they will not succeed this weekend. Center Weston Richburg is dealing with swelling in his left knee that likely will keep him out of Saturday night’s preseason game against the Jets.

“It just all of a sudden popped up this year,’’ Richburg said. “We’re trying to figure it out now. Figure out how we can eliminate this problem before the season rolls around and the games actually count and it’s for real. We’re trying to figure out a way to manage this.’’

Backup center Dallas Reynolds is expected to start in place of Richburg.

“I want to be out there just for chemistry purposes — work with my guys, make sure we’re getting everything ready for the regular season,’’ Richburg said. “At the same time, you want to get healthy for the regular season. So it’s a really tough conflict.’’

Marshall Newhouse helped off the practice field Wednesday by punter Steve Weatherford, with a wrap on his left ankle.Paul Schwartz

Offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse seems to have averted a serious injury after he had the back of his left ankle stepped on late in Wednesday’s practice. “I got stepped on while I was engaged in a block, went down and scared for a second, but I think all’s well,’’ Newhouse said.

Wide receiver Victor Cruz (calf) will not play vs. the Jets. … Safety Landon Collins (knee) will play. … Linebacker Mark Herzlich (concussion) was “coming along real well,’’ Coughlin said, but then “he didn’t feel real well [Wednesday] afternoon, not as well as I would like.’’

Cornerback Prince Amukamara will make his preseason debut and says the groin strain that limited him this summer is completely healed. “I’ve been able to do everything that I did before I got injured, so I wouldn’t say I’m limited in any case,’’ he said.

Amukamara on Giants-Jets: “I know for our fans it’s a huge game. Jets and Giants can split families, so I’ve heard.’’

The Giants broke camp Thursday, which does not mean much, other than players who have apartments or homes in the area can check out of the team hotel.

“Nothing ended, everything keeps right on going,’’ Coughlin said.
