Across the pond in Iceland, a company is creating the next generation of prosthetic limbs.

Forget everything you’ve seen before, these new devices are bionic.

Össur is creating state-of-the-art prosthetic lower limbs that can be controlled using only a wearer’s mind. It’s a combination of mechanics and electronics that can detect electronic pulses from the brain, sending the message into the prosthetic leg for “instantaneous physical movement,” according to Bloomberg.

The technology has been applied to its various prosthetic lower limbs, including feet, knees, and a whole leg. All these limbs are able to function using Ossur’s unique mind-control technology. The devices are already picking up favor in the U.S. and in Europe: Össur brings in about $500 million a year.
