STRASBOURG, France, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, who was killed in Moscow in February 2015, has filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights in regards to the ineffective investigation of her father's death.

Vadim Prokhorov, Nemtsova's lawyer, told RAPSI that the opposition figure was "killed six months ago... but investigators have only detained the suspected killers and have done nothing to find those who contracted and organized the murder."

Nemtsov was murdered on the night of February 27 in central Moscow. In the 1990s, he held a number of high-ranking posts within the Russian government, and for over a decade has been a key member of opposition to President Vladimir Putin.

"This is not an issue of compensation but as a matter of principle," added Prokhorov. "Zhanna wants the court to establish a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees the right to life. No one denies that it was a political murder."

Prokhorov underscored that Nemtsov had been targeted and attacked prior to his assassination, and the Investigative Committee ignored his complaints.

Five suspects have been detained in the case thus far. These men include the alleged murderer Zaur Dadayev and brothers Anzor and Shadid Gubashev, Khadmzat Bakhayev and Temerlan Eskerhanov.

Putin condemned Nemtsov's murder as a "shame and tragedy" for the country in March, and took over the investigation under his "personal control," as stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at the time.

In July, Nemtsova announced she was leaving her job as a journalist at the Russian news outlet RBK in order to join Deutsche Welle's Bonn office as a reporter in their Russian department, reported Radio Free Europe.

Nemtsova received numerous threats in Russia while she pressed for further investigations into her father's murder.
