A number of accidents involving high-end Volvo buses have taken place on the Kanpur-Auraiya-Etawah highway, the windening of which is underway, in the recent past. Recently, the UPSRTC had cancelled Volvo-bus service following back-to-back accidents involving High-end Volvo vehicles. With most Volvo bus services being run by influentials, the authorities, allegedly, fail to take any action against the operators. The apathy can be gauged from the fact that it has been two months since two Volvo AC buses attached with the UPSRTC, allegedly, snuffed out three lives and left 42 others injured, but the police or UPSRTC authorities have failed to take concrete action till date in this regard.

The Volvo-bus services were however recently resumed by the UPSRTC authorities. On June 20 mishap, a woman was killed and nearly 20 others injured. And in the June 29 accident, two persons were killed and 22 others sustained critical wounds. In both the accidents, the drivers were overspeeding.
Meanwhile, despite such major accidents, no special assistance was provided to the deceased and injured people undergoing treatment at various private and government hospitals. At present there are nearly 28 Volvo buses with 60 drivers operational under UPSRTC on various routes across the state. The drivers of these high-end buses undergo rigorous training session before they are being recruited by the company.
