Report sought: PMDC affairs alarming, says chief justice

PMDC an effective body and it will be approved by the Parliament soon

The Supreme Court has asked the attorney general to apprise the prime minister regarding the alarming state of affairs in Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and submit report in this regard on Thursday (today)


“A most alarming state of affairs has emerged in PMDC,” Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja observed, while hearing a case regarding the regulatory authority for practitioners and students of medicine and dentistry in the country.


Two individuals, Dr Shaista Faisal and Dr Ahmed Nadeem Akbar, appeared before the court on Tuesday, claiming to be the registrars of PMDC.


The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja observed that secretary health failed to answers the questions of the bench. During the hearing, AGP Salman Aslam Butt submitted that legislation is in final stage for making PMDC an effective body and it will be approved by the Parliament soon.


Meanwhile, hearing another case regarding the regularisation of NGOs, the same bench sought progress report from provincial governments regarding their legislation for monitoring the funding of charity organisations.
