Wu-Tang Clan Hasn't Sold That Five Million Album Yet
Wu-Tang Clan’s final album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, has not been sold yet.
Several months ago, RZA and Wu-Tang affiliate Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh announced a one-of-kind album that serves as an expensive art object. It contains 31 tracks and features all eight Wu-Tang Clan MCs, as well as rare collaborations from the likes of Cher and more. But there's one big stipulation once it gets sold.
The copyright clause, written by RZA and Cilvaringz, stated that the buyer cannot release it commercially for 88 years. However, a loophole in the contract allows the buyer to play songs for the public for free. Another option is they could also release the project for free if they really have that much money to blow.
According to Flavorwire, the online auction house Paddle8 stated that the sale of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin has not been sold. They are continuing “to work with the seller to vet a number of offers from serious potential collectors.” Back in March, the album went to auction with a reported starting bid of $5 million.
Various Wu-Tang members voiced their displeasure about the album, including Method Man and Ghostface Killah, who don't agree with RZA's tactics and the fact their fans won't get to hear their work.
