More delays in Simba Mhere accident trial

Johannesburg - The trial against the 21-year-old man alleged to have been behind the accident that led to the death of Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere and his best friend faced further delays in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The matter could not proceed on Wednesday because Preshalin Naidoo's lawyer said he still needed time to consult with the counsel who was expected to represent Naidoo if the matter went to trial.

The counsel was still attending to another matter in the High Court, Satch Govender, for Naidoo, told the court.

He said they needed more time to go through the report given by the accident reconstruction expert, and they needed to consider all their options, one of which is entering a possible plea bargain.

Naidoo faces a case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.

He has made several appearances since his arrest earlier this year following Mhere and Kady-Shay O'Bryan's death.

The pair was killed in a car accident on William Nicol drive in Bryanston on January 31.

Mhere's father Joseph survived the incident.

Magistrate Ndivhuwo Sethusha emphasised the need for the matter to be finalised but granted the defence a two-month postponement.

The matter was postponed to October 29. The matter was set down for a two-day trial.
