The father of a woman killed when she was hit by a car in Nottingham has paid tribute to his "talented" daughter.

University of Sheffield student Bryony Hollands, 19, from Berkshire, suffered fatal injuries when she was struck by a Mercedes in Woodthorpe Drive on Friday.

Mark Hollands said his daughter "would light up the room".

A 26-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving while unfit due to alcohol or drugs, is still to be questioned by police.

The man is being treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

'Mischievous humour'

A 20-year-old man, believed to be Miss Hollands' boyfriend, was also hit by the car and remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Mr Hollands said: "[Bryony] lit up the lives of those she met. Our loss is their loss too and the loss of those who will never know her."

The 19-year-old, from Maidenhead, was "prodigious in the arts" and could play the French horn, trumpet and piano. She also did ballet and performed in local pantomimes, he said.

He added: "As one of her brass teachers said, 'our lessons were always such fun, illuminated as they were by her particularly sunny disposition and mischievous humour. But wow, could she play.'"

Miss Hollands was studying music and planned a career in music therapy.

Her father said she was also part of a group of students who helped decorate a remote village school in India.

He said: "Bryony's life was touched by the love and affection of young children with so little materially, but full of joy and laughter. She longed to return there again."

During her time in Sheffield, she also helped provide soup and sandwiches to the homeless, Mr Hollands said.
