JHELUM:

Investigation into the murder of a woman and her daughter at their house in Jhelum on Monday is ongoing with police probing the role of domestic servants and questioning relatives of the deceased.

The police say they are investigating the possibility of a marriage dispute behind the double murder as some guests were expected to visit the woman’s house with a marriage proposal in the morning.

Ayesha Bibi, wife of Saleh Muhammad, and her daughter Ansar Bibi were shot dead at their house in Saghir Puri within the Jalalpur Sharif police limits on Monday night. The armed assailants also subjected them to torture as there were physical marks on their bodies.

The victims were living alone at their house as they have no male family member and relatives are settled in other cities.

The incident came to light when the expected guests visited the house and found the main door open and the women murdered. They informed the local police who reached the crime scene and shifted the bodies to the Jhelum District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities. The police have registered a blind double murder case on the complaint of Ashaq Hussain, Ayesha’s brother. However, police and relatives are suspicious about the involvement of Ashaq owing to his dubious previous record and relations with his sister and niece.
