The Honda BR-V comes with new interiors and exteriors compared to the current Brio family. The compact SUV also gets some additional features on offer.
After witnessing the launch of compact SUVs from most of the manufacturers, Honda has finally revealed their baby SUV BR-V, which is based on the Brio platform. The Japanese automaker is a bit late to the party but the product seems to be quite promising having some unique features on offer. Unlike the existing Brio family, the BR-V is quite appealing and different to look at having unique styling elements inside out.
The Honda Brio, Amaze and Mobilio all come with the same nose and interior elements with very minimal changes to differentiate each other. The Honda BR-V though gets a completely new front-end design, which is very SUV-ish and masculine. The side profile tends to look a bit longer than expected but the rear is designed tastefully. The reason behind a lengthy wheelbase is three rows of seating space inside, which is new to this segment of compact SUVs.
The official dashboard image of the BR-V prototype shows some inspiration from the new Honda Jazz and City interiors. The dashboard design is quite premium considering the inconsistent styling of the Brio family. There is a well integrated touch-screen panel with climate control system and a much comprehensive instrument cluster showing more details. However, one can still notice the familiar elements from the Brio by looking at the droopads and the handle bars.
Honda showcased the BR-V prototype recently at the GIIAS auto show in Indonesia, where it will be launched first before the Indian market. The BR-V will be offered in 6 colour options including – Misty Green Pearl, Passion Red Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White and Modern Steel Metallic. The car has 4455 mm of length, 1735 mm width and 1650 mm height with a 2660 mm wheelbase. The BR-V also has an ample ground clearance of 200+ mm, good news for India.
The Honda BR-V will be offered with a single engine option in Indonesia, which is the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 120 PS and 145 Nm. The Indian market will also get the famous 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine producing 100 PS and 200 Nm. The diesel engine will come with a 6-speed manual transmission while the petrol motor will get a 5-speed manual and CVT automatic options.
Some of the key features of the BR-V include 16-inch alloys, projector headlamps, foglamps, 6.1-inch audio system, power foldable and adjustable ORVMs, double-blower air conditioning, second row one-touch tumble feature, 50:50 split for third row, dual airbags, ABS and EBD. We expect Honda to launch the BR-V in India in mid-2016 with heavy localisation and a competitive price tag.
