Sandeep Dash case in Lokayukta court

Sandeep Dash case in Lokayukta court
Dash’s counsel said he was arrested without clarifying the grounds for arrest

One of the biggest financial scams pertaining to investment of Rs 2,202.90 crore belonging to the state into mutual funds while throwing norms to the wind by a senior Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer Sandeep Dash, has reached the Lokayukta special court judge VG Bopaiah’s court.
This followed arguments and counter arguments by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) police and the defence over the jurisdictions of courts in Bengaluru over corruption cases and the grant of bail.
The CID police, who arrested Sandeep Dash on August 17, produced the latter and other accused before the 1st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) on Monday, a day before Dash’s police custody came to an end.

Arguments led to the revelation that neither 1st ACMM court nor Principal City and Sessions Judge had the jurisdiction to grant bail or extending or granting police or judicial custody.

Upon hearing arguments from both sides, the 1st ACMM court judge directed the CID police to produce Sandeep Dash (accused no.1) before the Lokayukta special court at MS Building third floor, presided by Justice VG Bopaiah. The file was then transferred to the special court.

Meanwhile Dash’s counsel placed before the court that their client was arrested without letting him know the grounds for his arrest, which would be contested in subsequent bail plea hearing.
