Bright Start for JJ Academy despite lack of facilities

They may be lacking in infrastructure, but that hasn’t deterred JJ Academy (Mulund) from turning heads with impressive results in the ongoing MSSA Interschool football tournament. The school, yesterday, registered its second straight win in the U-16 Div IV category when it beat Bright Start Fellowship International School (Gowalia Tank) 4-1.

JJ train on a patch of land only just enough to host small sided games and coach Vaibhav Gavale, who started working with the team this year, said: “We have to do with whatever basic facilities we have. We have to train somewhere, so we are training over there. We can only squeeze six people in that ground, so we usually play 3 v 3games.” These mini games have helped and JJ appeared comfortable playing possession football.

Striker Ovais Sayyed struck twice while Akshat Dave and Karanveersingh Kaberwal managed a goal each for JJ. Sayyed, who has four goals from two matches, surprisingly, doesn’t celebrate on scoring. On both occasions yesterday, there was no reaction on his face. The youngster has 11 siblings and he takes his inspiration from his elder brother, who plays for his college. “I like football a lot. My bhaijaan and me, we talk a lot about football. I get a lot of inspiration from him,” said Sayyed, who feels he has the potential to make it big in the sport. “I really want to take it ahead. Right now it is through school but hopefully in near future I will join some club,” he concluded.
