Singapore telecom operator Singtel which launched its video streaming service HOOQ in India in May, has added over 1,000 Shemaroo video titles on its platform. Shemaroo will provide movies across genres and languages and will include films, TV shows and fitness videos like Hunterrr, The Dirty Picture, Ishqiya, Don, Shilpa’s Yoga and Bipasha’s Fit & Fabulous. Users of HOOQ will be able to access these titles from internet connected (duh) phones, tablets and computers. Jai Maroo, Director of Shemaroo Entertainment said that content consumption was likely to increase with increasing number of devices, which will “catalyse consumers’ shift towards premium paid services and thus will ultimately benefit content owners like us.” Last month, the company expanded its catalog to include movies from Bollywood production house Yash Raj Films. Some of the movies from Yash Raj Films included iconic classics such as Kaala Patthar, Kabhi Kabhi and Silsila along with other movies like Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year and Kabul Express. At Rs 199, HOOQ users get unlimited access to content across 5 devices where 2 devices can be used simultaneously. The service was apparently built keeping low bandwidth and speeds in mind for uninterrupted service. HOOQ will concentrate on metros initially and expand to Tier I and Tier II towns going forward.
