Now in Dhudike, Punjab: paratha, lassi & free public WiFi

Dhudike, a village in the Moga district of Punjab, will soon be introducing public WiFi for people in the village, reports Yahoo. The WiFi will be inaugurated on the 25th of August by the Prime Minister of India on a scheduled visit to the village. The initiative is sponsored by the Digital India program and Punjab National Bank.  The initiative will let villages get free access to government services like paying power bills, checking bank balance and land records and viewing government policies. The network will not allow unlimited downloads or access to all websites, although students will be allowed to access informative websites to aid with studies. It’s unclear if the initiative will let villagers pay for unrestricted access or not. Public WiFi services are getting pretty popular in the country, with various companies installing WiFi hotspots in various cities, with and without government tie-ups. Some of these include - Airtel, which won the mandate to launch WiFi services in Gurgaon from the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon in June, said it would roll out WiFi services at MG Road, Sadar Bazaar, Sector 29, Sirhaul Village and Leisure Valley Park at a speed of 2mbps for mobile internet users, with 30 minutes of free daily usage. - Sistema Shyam, which operates under the MTS brand in India, tied up with Indian Railways in April this year, to offer WiFi services at railway stations across India. - Reliance Jio Infocomm introduced 4G-enabled free Wi-Fi service across Kolkata in February this year.…
