Gurgaon police has arrested two persons, including a woman who allegedly attempted to electrocute her father-in-law with the help of her boyfriend.

The accused have been identified as Laxmi (22) and Sonu (19). The two were in an illicit relationship since past three years. They were also allegedly involved in the murder of Laxmi's husband, who was killed in a similar fashion on April 14, 2015. The duo had then recreated the scene of crime to make it come across as a natural death.

It was perhaps ignorance on the part of the deceased's family that encouraged the duo to attempt the second murder. The family of Laxmi's husband had not informed the local police and had cremated him without seeking a postmortem. However, the duo was not lucky to get away with their crime this time.

According to the police, Laxmi and Sonu tried to electrocute her father-in-law Yashwant Singh on August 3 in Narhera village under Pataudi police station. Singh was sleeping when he was given a strong electric shock by the two in the night. However, the victim managed to survive and raised an alarm. The accused managed to flee the spot. They were moving from one area in Gurgaon to another in order to escape until they were nabbed by the local police late on Saturday night.

"We arrested them from Gurgaon city on Saturday night under charges of murder and attempt to murder. We produced them in a local court which has sent them to judicial custody for 14 days," said a Gurgaon Police spokesperson. The accused have confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The duo said they wanted to kill Laxmi's father-in-law in order to seize properties in the village.
