Be a part of the city’s historical chronicles
Did you know there were villages called Ketamaranahalli in Rajajinagar, Sunkanahalli in Basavanagudi and Hosahalli in Vijayanagara? As Bengaluru is growing bigger, smaller villages are becoming part of the city and are losing their identities as well as historical importance. So, now, for the first time, a team of historians has decided to unearth the micro local history of Bengaluru.

Karnataka Itihasa Academy (which aims at bringing awareness about culture and history of Karnataka among the youth) has kick-started an innovative project of mapping the history of Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. The objective of this project is to record for posterity a curated, visual and narrative-based archive that traces the social, cultural, historical and religious significance of one’s place. This will be a record of the history of different places as experienced and remembered by individual members of the society.

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Academy state unit secretary GK Devaraj Swamy said, “We are inviting Bengalureans aware of the historical significance of their birthplace or ancestral village, or the village/town/locality they live in, or a place they have visited, to share their stories with photographs. The articles can be written in Kannada or English. You can email the write-up to ooru.itihasa@gmail.com
