Robbie Keane of the LA Galaxy (R) celebrates with Steven Gerrard (L)

There is no stopping Robbie Keane for LA Galaxy right now as the Irishman bagged another brace in his team's 5-1 win over New York Red Bulls.

The match had been billed as the first showdown outside of the Premier League between Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard but that failed to materialise due to an injury to the former Chelsea midfielder.

And it was Keane who stole the show again as he set up two goals while also notching two of his own.

Keane set up the first goal:

Given Gerrard and Lampard's careers have been closely intertwined, it was an encounter that had been hotly anticipated on both sides of the Atlantic but Lampard was ruled out due to a problem with his left quad.

The 37-year-old was rated as "questionable" by his club ahead of the game and he did not even make the substitute's bench at Stubhub Center.

Gerrard, 35, was making his sixth appearance for the Galaxy after leaving Liverpool earlier this summer.

Keane with his second and his side's fifth:

Prior to kick-off City head coach Jason Kreis said about his stricken midfielder on Sky Sports: "If he was going to be on the bench we needed him to be flying and ready to come and make an impact late in the game.

"He's really close to playing but this is not the one to throw him in for. Hopefully he'll be fit for next week against Columbus Crew."
