UNNAO: In the backdrop of the Panchayat polls scheduled to be held next month, spurious liquor claimed five lives in Nibhara Majra village Unnao on Sunday.
Condition of five other people was stated to be critical who were undergoing treatment. The incident was reported to have taken place under the Kotwali police station limits. The occurence of hooch tragedy for the second time in litte over two and a half months time, swept the floor below the feet of the district administration but by then it was too late.

Taking stern action, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav removed SP Unnao MP Singh and placed district excise officer and excise inspector under suspension. Also inspector, Kotwali police station incharge, Magarwara police out-post incharge, a sub-inspector and four police constables were suspended. Yadav also announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for the families of the deceased. Last time it was on June 4 that five people of Jurakhankheda area had died after consuming spurious liquor.
When ASP Ramkishun Yadav and circle officer Gopinath Soni along with officials of excise department raided the village on Sunday, 10 litres of spurious was recovered from the possession of one Rajendra of the same village. District magistrate Saumya Agarwal, ADM Indrapal Uttam also reached the village and inquired about making of spurious liquor from the locals. They consoled the family members of the deceased.
The deceased have been identified as Kallu, Hanuman, Kishan, Jamuna Pal and Sant Lal. Those who are in critical state include Prithvi Pal, Vijay, Kripal, Nanhe and Santu.
District Magistrate Saumya Agarwal, informed that chief minister has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased. She said that those involved in the manufacturing and the trading of the spurious liquor will be dealt with strictly.
