The Canada Revenue Agency warning the public of a telephone scam where the caller claims to be from the CRA, but is not.
The public being warned not to give out information which could lead to identity and financial theft.
Some telephone scams involve threatening taxpayers or using a scare tactic to convince them to pay fictitious debt to the CRA.
The caller is often threatened with court charges, jail or deportation if a payment isn’t received immediately.
The Canada Revenue Agency reminds the public that they never request prepaid credit cards
If you receive a call like this you should hang up and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre right away.
