Peter Brock telemovie: Offspring's Matthew Le Nevez to star

Updated

Offspring star Matthew Le Nevez is set to play Peter Brock in a coming telemovie and says he's excited about sharing the motoring legend's story with future generations of Australians.

The 61-year-old Brock, the Bathhurst 1000's most successful driver, died instantly in 2006 after the car he was racing at Gidgegannup, Western Australia, skidded and hit a tree.

Le Nevez says while he has yet to speak to the Brock family about the telemovie, he is conscious of the pressure of portraying a man they loved and miss.

"Peter lived a very public life but he was always very respectful of his family," Le Nevez told The Sunday Telegraph.

Matthew Le Nevez will play Peter 'perfect' Brock in a new telemovie.

"I'm just hoping to share his story and his legacy to future generations of Australians.

"He was an icon not only of Australian motor racing, but of Australian sport."

Le Nevez said he was thrilled at the prospect of driving around a race track to film Brock.

The telemovie will be broadcast on Network Ten.

"Like most men, I probably think I am a much better driver than I actually am," he said.

"Brendan [Cowell, who plays Brock's friend and rival Alan Moffat] and I will both be having fun around the track. If we can, I'm sure we'll both be trying to do as much of the driving as we can.

"It's certainly one of the perks of the job."

Ella Scott Lunch has been cast as Brock's wife Beverley, while Natalie Bassingthwaighte will play Julie Bamford, Brock's girlfriend before he died.
