ALLAHABAD: If you are planning to purchase a hi-speed bike on this Dhanteras or Diwali, you must ensure that when you roll out your bike from the showroom, it must have registration plate on either sides else the new bike may be seized as soon as it hits the road.
Police along with RTO department have instructed all the automobile dealers in city to provide registration number of vehicle (number plate) to the owner before taking out the bike out of showroom.

These measure, as per cops, have been taken to curb the crime graph of auto lifting and petty offences like chain and purse snatching. Cops after acknowledging the fact and figures that majority of hi-speed bikes are used for executing chain/purse snatching and other offences.
SSP Allahabad KS Emmanuel told TOI, “After going through investigation and review reports, cops found that bikes without registration number were frequently used in crime like chain and purse snatching. If bikes and other vehicles having proper registration number on both sides, it would also help to arrest the graph of increasing auto lifting also.”
He further maintained that police had sized two bikes without registration and both of them were used in crime and had no registration for last one year.
Ironically, as many as 37 cases of chain snatching and 480 cases of auto lifting were registered in police records in past seven months forcing police authorities to adopt some strict measures to curb chain snatching and auto lifting.
SSP along with RTO (administration) Anil Singh had also held a series of meeting with automobile dealers and appealed dealers not to offer vehicles to owners without registration plate.

RTO officials have in fact asked dealers to enroll or unload the details of owner on the booking/purchase date and the registration to the particular vehicle would be allotted within 72 hours.
RTO officials said that there are around 90 big and small dealers selling two or four wheelers in the city. They further added that dealers have no objection to the point and sub-dealers would not be allowed to take the vehicles out from showroom without registration.
SSP, meanwhile, said that action would also be taken against erring dealers on their part of laxity or offering owner to take vehicle without registration.
Abhishek Kumar, a sales officer of automobile showroom said, “It is a good idea to check the increasing cases of auto-lifting or snatching and we have been apprising our customers and asking them to submit all their details on the booking date (at the earliest), as we would be able to offer them registration number at the earliest after getting it from RTO office.”
Meanwhile, the SSP said, “Usually automobile dealers do not take pain to cut receipt or collect details of customer(s) on the booking/ purchase date and adopt lethargic attitude to send compiled papers to RTO office to obtain registration number. Since we have decided to implement these measures strictly, things would improve.” Most of the automobile dealers have agreed to the proposal in principle.
