Donal Kinsella's Maudlin Magdalen got her reward for consistency last night with a convincing success in the featured Kingdom Gold Cup Fillies Handicap at Killarney.

The ultra-tough mare has been turning in some admirable displays this summer and was quickly sent to the front by Ian Queally as the five-year-old went in search of a second success at the track.

The fractions set by Queally ensured his mount didn't have her stamina taxed and the 3/1 second favourite stayed on well to beat Break My Mind by two and three-quarter lengths.

Curragh handler Michael O'Callaghan made a winning return to his native county as Maknificent stormed home under Shane B Kelly to record one-and-a-half-length success from Tagg's Island in the mile handicap.

Ken Condon teamed up with jockey Shane Foley to land the opening two-year-old contest over an extended mile with Emily Square (7/4favourite) which battled on well to get the better of Hot To The Touch by a length.

Meanwhile, the participation of Clondaw Warrior in tomorrow's Ebor at York is in slight doubt after only being handed a spot as first reserve.

Despite being one of the ante-post favourites for the one-mile-six-furlong contest, the Willie Mullins-trained eight-year-old, a winner at both Royal Ascot and the Galway Festival, will have to rely upon one of those declared in the final field of 20 to come out to ensure he gets run in the race.

The good news for the Closutton handler, who will still be represented in the Ebor by dual-code performer Wicklow Brave, is that Roger Charlton has declared top weight Quest For More, but he is likely to run in the Lonsdale Cup today.

Aidan O'Brien, chasing a first winner in the race since the victory of Mediterranean in 2001, saddles the progressive Fields Of Athenry, which is due to be ridden by the trainer's son, Donnacha. Facile Galway Hurdle winner Quick Jack will also line up for compatriot Tony Martin, whose Elishpour is second reserve.
