PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Russia, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Russian Geographical Society shared footage of a bear recorded by a GoPro camera that caught the animal from an unusual angle: the inside of its jaws.

The video posted to the Russian Geographical Society's official YouTube channel was recorded by a GoPro camera planted on the banks of the Kurile Lake in the South Kamchatka Sanctuary.

The video's description says videographer Dmitry Shpilenok planted the camera with the hope of catching footage of bears fishing for salmon in the lake, but the GoPro instead set off one bear's curiosity.

The footage shows a bear rapidly run up to the camera and give it a quick sniff before grabbing it in its jaws.

The camera recorded a brief glimpse of the inside of the bear's mouth before the video ends.

It was unclear whether the GoPro survived the bear encounter intact.
