Nintendo has announced plans to release a Tekken-style Pokemon game for Wii U, available worldwide in Spring 2016.

Titled Pokken Tournament, the news about the Street Fighter-esque game was officially publicized at the Pokemon World Championship, an annual invite-only international tournament where selected Pokemon card players go head-to-head.

Created by Bandai Namco Games, the trailer for Pokken Tournament is in Japanese, but for anyone familiar with the Tekken game franchise, the concept is pretty clear: two Pokemon duke it out in the ring. Though the trailer is in Japanese, the caption for the YouTube video is in English: "Watch Lucario and Pikachu battle it out, along with other Pokemon, in this fighting game from the Tekken team."

Other Pokemon featured in the game include Charizard, Weavile and the new Pikachu Libre, with more characters to be added in the upcoming months.

Accordingly, the new game differs from traditional Pokemon games due to its lack of interactive RPG interplay.
