One Direction fans went into meltdown as they accused the group of throwing some shade at former bandmate Zayn Malik .

The group shared a blurry screenshot of one of their old music videos on Twitter as part of #ThrowbackThursday and put dedicated fans to the test by asking which video the still was taken from.

And while some fans went along with the lighthearted game, others were FUMING that former 1D star Zayn, who quit the group in March, was cropped out.

"@onedirection this is so wrong don't act like zayn never existed," one fan wrote.

Another added: "why did you crop Zayn out? You should just accept the fact that Zayn was a part of 1D and you can't change that."

"OMG you cut Zayn," another said.

Others pointed out the group weren't actually doing anything wrong, saying: "it would be awkward NOT to crop him which will eventually lead to false hope lmao."

"hmmm true..knowing the fandom but still kinda rude I mean he was still part of it tho," another replied.

One fan said: "he's out of the band, he left so they technically have a right to :-)"

The still is taken from the video for their 2014 song Steal My Girl.

While fans were quick to comment, the attention soon shifted as 1D dropped a surprise video this morning for their song Drag Me Down - their first video without Zayn.

The boys literally went out of this world as they transformed into astronauts and were sent into orbit.

Harry, Louis, Niall and Liam shot the video at the NASA Space Centre in Houston, Texas and pulled out all of the stops to make it pretty epic.
