The Maharashtra government Friday further scaled up security provided to social activist Anna Hazare following a letter warning him that he would meet the same fate as that of rationalist Narendra Dhabolkar who was killed two years ago. Hazare had already been given ‘Z’ category security. The state has provided an additional vehicle along with escorts.
Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde said, “Anna Hazare already had ‘Z’ category security. The security audit is carried out regularly. In the wake of the threat letter, a decision was taken to scale up security by providing him two additional escorts. Security has also been beefed up at his residence and office.”
He said the police were trying to ascertain the source and motive of the threat letter.

Hazare informed the government Thursday about the letter sent by one Mahadoe Panchal from Latur district in Marathwada.
The letter comes days after Hazare had received another letter warning him not to associate with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Hazare said such threats will not deter him from social work.
