Everton defender John Stones' defensive qualities are "not something you can coach", according to his former manager David Moyes.

The Toffees have rejected a third bid of £30m from Chelsea for England international Stones, according to Sky sources.

And Moyes, now manager of Real Sociedad, says Stones' natural poise on the ball could be seen when he signed him from Barnsley in January 2013.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News, Moyes said: "We signed him from Barnsley for £1.25m, we had a fantastic recruitment team and they'd seen him play right back, centre halve, even in midfield.

"He was always going to need time to develop his strength, size, but he's one of these players with a natural poise on the ball. Nearly uncoached, not something you can really coach."

The 21-year-old made his debut in 2013 under Roberto Martinez, and has played 56 times in total for Everton.

Stones' qualities on the ball have drawn several comparisons with former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, something Moyes echoes.

"He's got the ability to be on the ball, incredibly comfortable, similar to what Rio [Ferdinand] had.

"He's gone on to turn into a terrific player, which we'd always hoped."
