A group of senior citizens got to relive part of their youth on Thursday with a "senior" prom organized by a local retirement community.

From hair and makeup to corsages and dresses, no detail was spared as 200 seniors -- many of them in their eighties and nineties -- took to the dancefloor at the Baycrest Geriatric Centre for an afternoon of dancing and music.

“It’s just having fun being here with all the people,” said Arlene Schnall, one of the attendees.

The event was also a special opportunity for those who never had a prom when they were young.

Sam and Rosa Weisberg celebrated their 69th anniversary during the event. The two were married before their 18th birthdays after being released from a Nazi concentration camp in Europe.

Thursday’s event was their chance to experience a senior prom for the first time.

The annual event is hosted by the Baycrest Geriatric Centre, where many of the residents are Holocaust survivors.
