BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Kim Richards' ex-husband, Monty Brinson, showed his support for the star this week on Instagram. Brinson defended the 50-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star in a lengthy post following Richards' arrest for shoplifting this month. The incident raised fresh concern for the former child actress, who has struggled with alcohol abuse for years.

"One day the people that didn't believe in you will tell everyone how they met you," Brinson wrote. "That quote is in honor of @kimrichards11 all I will say at this time besides being best friends, and personally a person who has a great heart is thankful to all her fans and friends for believing in her."
"Personally I have not seen her but we speak everyday," he revealed. "Without going into detail 90 percent of what you read is completely false ... [you] will see her very soon at what she's done best all her life since the age of 4 ... [I personally] would like to thank everyone who stood by her through this rough time."
Richards' family was reportedly considering placing her on an involuntary psychiatric hold, and the troubled star is said to have been hospitalized last week. A source told Radar Online Richards has since "voluntarily checked into an inpatient facility in Orange County."
Brinson and Richards were married from 1985 to 1988, and share 28-year-old daughter Brooke. Brinson had been living with Richards and under the star's care as he battles stage IV cancer.
