Aitor Karanka: Middlesbrough must 'forget' Derby equaliser

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka says his side have to forget the final stages of their 1-1 draw with Derby if they are to progress.

Kike's early strike gave Boro the lead but Johnny Russell's 88th-minute goal rescued a point for the Rams.

"We have to fix our mistakes as those two points can be important at the end of the season," Karanka told BBC Tees.

"The fans have high expectations and we have to forget the last few minutes as soon as possible to play our best."

Tuesday's draw with Derby was the fifth time that Middlesbrough had dropped points from a winning position in the final 10 minutes of play since Aitor Karanka took charge in November 2013.

Despite conceding late on at Derby, Karanka believes Boro's fans can inspire them, as they look to replicate last weekend's 3-0 win over Bolton when they face Bristol City on Saturday.

"It was frustrating because we did not play in our best style but we know we will have the fans' support and I hope they can leave the stadium in the same way as last Saturday," Karanka added.

Boro winger Albert Adomah will face his former club for the first time since joining from the Robins in August 2013, and Karanka has seen the 27-year-old improve since moving to the Riverside.

"I know that he was brilliant at Bristol City but he's improving here and he is enhancing our squad which is important to me," said the former Real Madrid defender.
