Sachin Narale, who works in the Maintenance- BIW (Body in White) department at Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd, Chakan, Pune, has won the ‘Medallion of Excellence’ and the ‘Best of Nation’ titles at the event. He was ranked seventh amongst the 38 participants from across the globe in the Welding category.

The World Skill Competition (WSC), considered as the Olympics for Skills, is held every two years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. This year, the event was held between August 11-16 in São Paulo, Brazil.

Commenting on this achievement, Rajeshwar Tripathi, Chief People Officer, Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra, said: “We are extremely proud of Sachin Narale who has brought this unique honour for our country. We at Mahindra constantly strive to improve the skills of our workforce and nurture talent to produce the best-in-class products. Aligned with the World Skill competition, the Mahindra team at AFS started this journey of skill building to enhance its manufacturing skill standards to enable it to compete successfully at a global level and eventually bring India to the forefront of Global Automotive Skills. We are hopeful that through this program we will win many similar accolades for our country in the coming years”.

Sachin joined Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd (MVML) in 2012 and his skills were identified through the Mahindra Skill Excellence (MSE) programme. Following plant level competitions, his journey towards excellence started in 2013 with preparation for the CII Regional Work Skill competition held in Mumbai and at the National level in Bengaluru.

The qualification process for the World Skill Competition required Sachin to compete nationally and emerge as the best among his peers. Following his selection and rigorous training, Sachin demonstrated impeccable technical abilities, both individually and collectively to execute the tasks given at the World Skill Competition. Of the eight medals of excellence winners from India, Sachin scored 79.8%, making him the highest scorer from India. He also received the Best of Nation award.

Mahindra Skill Excellence (MSE) was launched with five core manufacturing skills – painting, welding, cnc machining, assembly and engine diagnostics in FY2015. Plant level competitions are organised from which top winners from each skill are selected for specific skill up-gradation training. After completing their training, these plant winners compete amongst themselves at the AFS level competition. The top three winners at AFS level in each of the skills are felicitated during the annual event.
