Southern Stars win first T20 against Ireland women

The Australian women's cricket team have claimed a 25-run win over Ireland in the first Twenty20 international of their three-match series in Dublin.

Sent into bat, the Southern Stars made 5-140 from their 20 overs.

Captain Meg Lanning top-scored with 43 in her 50th international T20 match, while Elyse Villani made 32 and Alex Blackwell finished on 20 not out.

Ireland failed to chase down the target, finishing at 8-115 from their 20 overs. Cecelia Joyce top-scored with 26, supported by Gaby Lewis (23) and Kim Garth (15).

Debutant Grace Harris (2-15) was the leading wicket-taker for Australia. Rene Farrell took 1-12 and Ellyse Perry 1-21.

The two teams will meet again at the YMCA Ground in Dublin on Friday and Saturday, before the Southern Stars return to England for the first Ashes T20 on August 26 in Chelmsford.
