Mumbai: Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for making women-centric films, said that a number of issues still need to be conveyed through such movies.

Mr Bhandarkar, who is known for his films such as Chandni Bar, Page 3, Fashion, Corporate and Heroine, also expressed happiness over the trend of making women-centric movies which have gathered momentum in Bollywood.

"I am happy that a lot of other people are making women-centric films. I feel that in our country there are a lot of issues that need to be told through our point of view of women. It is a great moment for all of us. We have an audience who wait for such movies," Mr Bhandarkar told PTI in an interview.

Though actresses have proved themselves by delivering hit films but a disparity is still present between them and their male counterparts, as far as the pay scale is concerned. "It is a male dominated industry, be it Hollywood or Bollywood, it happens everywhere," he added.

However, he feels that the trend is changing now with top actresses receiving their due. "But slowly and gradually a lot of actresses are taking position like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif. They have reached a level where they are getting good pay and their due, and what they wanted. It is a good thing," he added.

Mr Bhandarkar is looking forward to the release of Calendar Girls. He recently launched the trailer of the film. "Whosoever has seen the trailer is saying good things about the film. Everybody is interested in watching the movie," he said.

Calendar Girls features five newcomers- Akanksha Puri, Avani Modi, Kyra Dutt, Ruhi Singh and Satarupa Pyne. "This movie required newcomers. Calendar Girls is the platform for new girls," he added. (Also Read: Deepika Padukone Inspired Madhur Bhandarkar's Calendar Girls)

Mr Bhandarkar also said that working with newcomers was easy. "It was very easy directing the newcomers. I auditioned them and told what I am expecting from them. I am happy with the casting," he said.

Mr Bhandarkar's films have often got embroiled in controversies. "I am here to make my audience happy. Whenever I make films I want to be true to reality. I am being upfront and honest in showing the reality of life. Like when I was making Heroine, I did not develop cold feet. I wanted to show the reality of films," he added.

Calendar Girls, which has been produced by Sangeeta Ahir and Bhandarkar Entertainment, is scheduled to release on September 25.
