KARACHI: Bright Gymkhan beat KGA Gymkhana by 28 runs in the final to win the Jashn-e-Azadi Cricket Festival at the KGA Gymkhana ground here on Tuesday.

Batting first after winning the toss, KGA Gym scored 173-8 in the stipulated 20 overs with Ravi Kumar (45) being the top-scorer.

Shoaib Ibrahim and Afzal Qureshi bowled well for Bright Gym and captured four and three wickets respectively.

Chasing the target, Bright Gymkhana achieved it for the loss of six wickets with Mohammad Ali (62) and Shoaib (44) emerging as the architects of victory. Imran Bashir bowled impressively for KGA Gym to bag three wickets.

Chief guest Asif Azeem, director sports DMC South, gave away the prizes and trophies and said that a large number of sports events held on the Independence Day really added a lot of flavour and excitement to the celebrations.

Praising DMC South and Sindh Sports Board for their tremendous efforts to support healthy activities and sporting events in the province, Asif said Sports Minister Fayyaz Ali Butt, Secretary Sports Mohammad Rashid and consultant Musheer Rabbani have rendered outstanding services for SSB.—Agencies
