Students of ARSD lock non-teaching staff out

The students decided not to let the non-teaching staff enter the college premises.

Students of the Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College on Wednesday reportedly shut the college gates from inside for about an hour — barring the non-teaching staff from entering the premises — to protest two alleged incidents of harassment by them. “On August 13, a student had complained against an attendant working in the college office. She had said that he was sending her lewd messages on WhatsApp. We even wrote to the principal, asking him to take action on the issue, but nothing was done. On Tuesday, a lab attendant caught hold of a girl’s hand and wrote his number on it,” said a non-teaching staff member.

The students then decided not to let the non-teaching staff enter the college premises.

“The college gates were shut for us since morning. We were allowed to enter only after an hour or so. Finally, a notice was put up by the principal, saying the lab attendant had been suspended. But till now, no action has been taken against the other attendant,” said the staff member.

ARSD Principal Gyantosh Jha said, “As soon as I reached, I got to know about Tuesday’s incident, which I was not aware of earlier. I then put up a notice suspending the attendant. The problem with the first case was that there was no written complaint. But we still suspended the attendant.”
