Quota Campaign: Now, Brahmin group threatens stir over reservation

The demands raised by the Samaj were reservation to Brahmins on economic grounds, quota and facilities to students of the community in educational institutions, formation of Brahmin Economical Development Board, salaries to priests of temples in Gujarat as provided by the Tamil Nadu government and appointment of only Brahmins as temple priests.

Joshi said the organisation would mobilise the community at the district and taluka levels. Its vice-president Bharat Rawal said the group had planned public gatherings, rallies and other programmes to press the demand for reservation to the poor from the community.

“We will also send 51,000 postcards to the President and submit a blood written application to the Governor to give further impetus to the campaign. Around 30 years ago, then then minister Trambakbhai Dave first made efforts to make reservation on economic grounds, but after his unfortunate demise, the Cabinet did not pass the resolution. After that, Shree 17 Taluka Audichya Sahastra Mandal and Vadhvan Brahmsamaj raised the same issue before Sugnaben Bhatt Committee, but the government did not consider her opinion. As the government ignored our voices, we have decided to start an agitation to in the pursuit of our demands,” Joshi added.
