Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “destroying creativity” by imposing a “RSS and BJP model of education”, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday said the midnight crackdown and arrest of protesting students at Film and Television Institute, Pune, was a “symbol” of what is happening across the country.

“FTII is a symbol. It is happening across the country…Wherever Modi and RSS’s thinking is not being maintained, people are being suppressed,” Rahul said in Amethi.

He, however, said that “this thinking” has started facing revolt and the government will collapse under the pressure of protests like that by the ex-servicemen on the One Rank One Pension (OROP) issue and by the students who are opposing appointments at FTII.

“Protesting #FTII students arrested in #midnightcrackdown. Our students are not criminals Modiji. Silence. Suspend. Arrest: ModiMantra for AcheDin,” he later said in a tweet.

Rahul, who unveiled a statue of Vinoba Bhave at a degree college in his parliamentary constituency, compared the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi with that of RSS. He said like the RSS protested against the paths followed by Gandhi and Bhave and the same pattern is now being supported by BJP and the central government.

Festive offer

“Jo party Hindustan ko chala rahi hai, jiske PM hain…RSS ke log..Golwalkar…Gandhi ji ke virodh mein khade hue they (The PM and his party which is ruling the nation (are) from RSS…they stood against Gandhiji),” Rahul said.

Asking students to read more about Mahatma Gandhi and Bhave, Rahul said that they should not be afraid of anyone.

“Gandhi ji promoted non-violence and entire world knows that our country has progressed with this ideology for 50-60 years. This is the ideology of Congress. The other ideology that opposed him believes in suppressing others,” he said.

Rahul said the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh was not just a case of corruption, as many believe, but also reflected a systematic degradation in the education system in which people also made money. “Through a scam like Vyapam, BJP and RSS people first tried to finish creativity of educational institution in Madhya Pradesh and earned lot of money. Then they tried to impose RSS education model in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and now FTII is an example that they are trying to spread the disease across the country,” he said.

Justifying students’ protest at FTII, Rahul said that students raisesd a genuine protest against placing a person above them, who did not have the capability to enter the institution otherwise.

Na kuch mila hai, na kuch milega: Rahul Gandhi

Intensifying his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the black money issue, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Wednesday told villagers in Amethi to ask for Rs 15 lakh as promised whenever RSS or BJP people visit them. During Lok Sabha polls, Modi had promised to bring back black money stashed away abroad and deposit Rs 15 lakh each in every citizen’s account. Has that money reached you?” Rahul asked. He said they should raise the slogan — “Na kuch mila hai, na kuch milega (nothing has been received and nothing would be given)” — on seeing RSS and BJP people.
