India at Toronto International Film Festival

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), on Tuesday, announced their complete line-up of films. Those selected for showcase at the prestigious festival include six Indian productions. An Old Dog’s Diary and Fallen Objects will be screened as part of the “Wavelengths” section. An Old Dog’s Diary by Shai Heredia and and Shumona Goel, is a portrait of Indian avant garde painter and founding member of the Progressive Artists’ Group, FN Souza.

Also from the realms of art is Fallen Objects, a video art film by American-Indian Shambhavi Kaul, daughter of filmmaker Mani Kaul. Megha Ramaswamy’s short film, Bunny, has been selected in the Short Cuts section. This is Ramaswamy’s second consecutive showcase at the festival.

Bunny, says the director, is a fictional short that explores childhood fantasies and fears. Indian-origin international filmmaker Pan Nalin’s feature Angry Indian Goddesses, Meghna Gulzar’s Guilty and Leena Yadav’s Parched have made it to the Special Presentations category of the festival.

While Guilty is based on the controversial Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, Parched hopes to bring forth several women’s issues through the story of four women who form an unlikely bond. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to September 20.
