An object wrapped in black plastic seen on the ground beneath Nana BTS station sparked a bomb scare that briefly closed inbound Sukhumvit Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Police and bomb disposal officers rushed to the skytrain station after the suspicious object was reported around 2pm.

They closed the entry gate to the station on the side of Sukhumvit Road heading to Ploenchit. Inbound lanes of the road were also closed to traffic while they examined the object.

Train services were not affected.

Around 3.10pm, the bomb disposal team concluded the mystery item was some cardboard wrapped in black plastic and transparent duct tape.

The entrance to the BTS station and the traffic lanes were then opened.

The suspicious object caused some panic among the wary public in the wake of the deadly Erawan shrine bomb explosion on Monday night that killed 20 people and injured another 125.
