Krishna University Vice-Chancellor D. Surya Chandra Rao on Tuesday asked students not to spoil their career by resorting to ragging.
His observation assumes significance in the wake of the incidents at Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) and SV University.
Participating as a chief guest at the freshers’ day celebrations at Nalanda Degree College at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram auditorium here, he said the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the government considered ragging incidents seriously.
“Ragging is not good for students and the institution. I hope everyone knows what is happening in ANU,” he said, asking seniors to create a student-friendly atmosphere for freshers on campuses. The packed auditorium came alive with cultural programmes and dance shows by students. Mr. Rao earlier felicitated R. Kalpana, a student of the college, for getting selected to the Indian women’s cricket team.
He also presented certificates and mementoes to students who excelled in their respective courses.
Nalanda Educational Institutions correspondent and secretary A. Vijaya Babu was also present.
Meanwhile, students of Sri Durga Malleswara Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala participated in poster presentation and slogan writing on anti-ragging on the college premises on Tuesday.
