Godman Rampal seeks transfer to another jail

Rampal has submitted that directions should be issued to the Haryana government to register a case against the jail officials responsible for committing “brutal atrocities” against him.

Controversial self-styled godman Rampal has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a transfer from the Central Jail Hisar-II to the Central Jail Hisar-I, on the grounds that he is allegedly being harassed and tortured by jail superintendent S S Dahiya. The godman and head of Satlok Ashram in Hisar’s Barwala has also sought an inquiry by a SIT into “atrocities being committed against him by jail officials”. Rampal’s petition came up for hearing before a bench headed by Justice Paramjeet Singh and the court directed the state government to file its reply by September 28. Rampal has been in custody since November 18 last year and is at present in Hisar jail.

He has submitted that directions should be issued to the Haryana government to register a case against the jail officials responsible for committing “brutal atrocities” against him. His counsel told the court that the godman suffers from asthma and gastric and chest infections, which was allegedly getting worse “due to peculiar conditions created by the jail superintendent”. It has also been alleged that on December 13 last year, Dahiya had allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh and threatened that if Rampal didn’t pay him the money, only his dead body would leave the jail.

He also submitted that he has sent a number of representations to the state chief minister, the DGP, Lokayukta and illaqa magistrate.
