Akriti battles oxygen shortage to perform for army at Siachen
Singer Akriti Kakar recently staged a musical performance for the soldiers of Indian Army at Siachen, to salute them for their courage.
Akriti had to travel from the sea level to an altitude of 18,380 ft. But some time after landing in Siachen, where temperature was below zero, lack of oxygen started bothering her. Akriti suffered from a terrible headache.
But that couldn't deter the singer from giving her best shot on stage.
The Army medical department gave her medicines and injections to induce oxygen in her system, which made her feel better.
Akriti recalled, “I did not get much time to acclamatize to that altitude and thus, my body started showing signs of high-altitude sickness. Also, due to some health issues, our percussionist had to return from Leh. So, I had to perform without him. I wrote and composed a song for the jawaans called Shukriya. Seldom do we get an opportunity to do something for those who serve the nation. So, I did not want to miss the opportunity at any cost."
The singer posted pictures from the event on her twitter account and also wrote, "Still battling heartrate n oxygen imbalance post my #Siachen performance experience. Literally breathtaking! #JaiHind"
