Over the past few years Jacky Ho has featured on the periphery of the police radar but it was the wrong side of the law that caught up with him on Saturday.

The 39-year-old's throat was cut and his body found scantly covered with leaves in a park popular with children in inner-city Sydney.

A member of the public strolling through Wentworth Park in Glebe discovered Mr Ho's body, dressed in a grey long-sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans and blue shoes, under a tree about 1pm on Saturday.

Mr Ho, who lives in the CBD, was last seen alive about 12 hours prior around the vicinity of Wentworth Park.

Detectives will now delve into his history, including his relationships, past and present, and any links he potentially had with drug supply.

It is understood Mr Ho had been known to police for at least the past few years for his associations with the Asian crime figures.

But sources say his involvement was on the bottom rung compared to the big players he associated with who dabbled in money laundering worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and drug supply.

Detectives have asked nearby pubs for CCTV footage capturing the 48 hours before Mr Ho's body was found as they try to piece together his final movements.

As forensic officers scoured the park on Saturday, Mr Ho's body was visible behind a sagging branch and to the hordes of locals who had gathered at the scene.

Strike Force Kooyong, led by homicide squad and Leichhardt detectives, want to hear from anyone who saw Mr Ho before he was murdered.

He is described as being about 165 centimetres tall and weighing about 80 kilograms with short dark hair.
