Jose Mourinho has been given the go ahead by owner Roman Abramovich to sign at least three more players before the end of the transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The Blues lost 3-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday, taking the Champions' tally of points for the opening two games to one, a disappointing start to a campaign where they were regarded as overwhelming favourites to retain the title.

Chelsea have already completed a deal for Augsburg defender Abdul Baba Rahman and will be making an improved offer for John Stones, as reported by the Guardian. However, the Telegraph has claimed that Everton will only sell the player for £40m ($62m), which would be a major blow for the Blues' as the defender has been warranted a starting berth by the Toffees.

Stones has been earmarked as a long-term successor to John Terry, who was unceremoniously substituted at half time by Mourinho, citing reasons that he wanted to play a high line, which needed the pace of Kurt Zouma from the bench.

Chelsea failed to fashion a single opportunity until the second half when they had their first shot on target through Eden Hazard, who shot straight at Joe Hart to pull off a comfortable save in what was a dangerous opportunity for the Blues to equalise.

Abramovich is reported to have sanctioned the move for a defender, a midfielder and finally an attacker to help Mourinho reinvigorate his squad and push for the title.

Mourinho claimed in an interview before the game against City that they have sold a lot of players for a massive sum, which has given them the moral right to spend big on transfers.

"Chelsea is Chelsea and Mr Abramovich is Mr Abramovich. The board has worked so well over the years in making money with sales that if somebody has the right – the moral right – to do that, then I say that Chelsea is one of them," Mourinho said, as quoted by the Guardian.
