by Paul Upham: Young Australian Tommy Browne leaves Sydney on Sunday night headed for South Korea and his first boxing world title shot against WBC featherweight champion Injin Chi at the Grand Hilton in Seoul on January 30. The 21 year-old from Campbelltown won the WBC Youth featherweight world title twelve months ago, which helped him secure this unexpected world title shot.

"It definitely feels likes a world title fight," Browne 17-2-1 (7) told SecondsOut on Saturday. "The last few weeks have been real serious. This is a great opportunity and I know I can win. It only takes one punch in boxing."

31 year-old Chi 29-2-1 (18) won the vacant WBC title with a 7th round knockout of Michael Brodie in April 2004 and there is no dispute that the Korean will go into the fight a firm favourite, something Browne wants to use to his advantage.

"He has got more pressure on himself, fighting at home," he explained. "Being champion, there is more pressure on him to win than me."

Browne has sparred many rounds with the fighters at Team Fenech over the last few weeks and also used a former sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao from the Philippines.

"I haven't trained any harder for any fight," he said. "We have done everything right and I have just got to take it into the ring. He is an aggressive fighter, but he can also be hit pretty easy with his defence. I will use my reach and height advantage as I am a bit taller than him."

"It has taken a while to sink in, but Tommy knows exactly what it would mean for him to win this fight," said trainer Todd Makelin. "Not many people give us a chance, but we can win if Tommy sticks to the game plan."

A small team of eight will accompany Browne for his second professional fight outside Australia.

"It would be amazing, to become WBC world champion, I wouldn't be able to describe it," said Browne, who is the first of four Australians who will challenge for a world title over the next two months, along with Robbie Peden, Danny Green and Paul Briggs. "Each year Australian boxers are getting better," he said. "A lot of us are having international fights and getting more experience, meaning we are more prepared for fights like this."

Congratulations to IBF Pan Pacific light heavyweight champion Jason Delisle and partner Michelle, who welcomed their first child Jackson Delisle into the world last week. "It's unbelievable being a dad," said Delisle. "I can't leave him alone."

There are Saturday afternoon rumours in Sydney that the Anthony Mundine vs. Manny Siaca rematch on February 2 in Newcastle could be off as Siaca injured his hand in training. SecondsOut will bring you further information as it becomes available.
