TEMPO.CO, Purwakarta - A masquerade festival Sarung Iket Topeng (Saket) held in Purwakarta on Saturday, August 15 has broken the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) record as a unique and original cultural event performed by 53,000 participants.
The festival was opened on Saturday night with thousands of spectators swarmed around Jalan Sudirman. The participants are dressed in traditional attire and masks, marched along 3-kilometer distance to stage located on Jalan Singawinata, the heart of Purwakarta.
The sea of people were entertained by local artists and the traditional music accompanied the march. As the parade arrived in the stage location, the night heated up as all participants were required to perform maranggi dance and sing a song about maranggi satay, Purwakarta distinctive dish.
Mad “Komar” Drajat, an actor, said that the festival should be held annually, which was responded positively by Purwakarta Regent, Dedi Mulyadi.
