Fujifilm aims to boost medical business

TOKYO -- Japanese camera and photographic film maker Fujifilm Holdings aims to expand its medical and pharmaceutical business with the antiviral drug Avigan. The company sees health care as its next growth pillar.

     Avigan is said to be one of few drugs that may be effective against the Ebola, the disease that ravaged parts of West Africa after an outbreak began in 2013. With this "magic bullet" under its belt, Fujifilm Holdings has been working closely with medical researchers around the world over the past year, raising its profile globally.
